You have actually proven my point. This so called flying Car you have listed, as in ALL such flying Cars, is not real. Just a drawing or a Video cartoon, with option to pre-order something in future, which means your Money gone down the drain. So only way you can have flying Cars is if Governments get behind it in Major way to spend 10s of Billions in the infrastructure to make such flying Cars possible.
This one too has been made and given a certificate to fly. Not sure if you can pre-order this one. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-6210205/Worlds-flying-cars-set-market-pre- sales-month.html.
There has been in the past one flying car and there are currently a couple of REAL (not drawing, cartoon, CGI etc.) offerings. Why don't you get yourself to a show (maybe aero expo) and have a look at one?
World is looking forward for change . Electric cars are on their way. But stoking energy still a problem. How much energy do you think a plane like this would use? So much that hopefully it won't happen. Think green !
This question is not about Energy, it is about Flying Cars, and whether they will every happen? And to be more exact whether this Flying Car by Terrafugia is just a CGI dream, or whether it can really come to Market?
Of course a Flying Car, will use Energy, and this Car by Terrafugia supposedly runs all on Electricity, so it is very Green in that sense.
But I think your real question is will the general public be able to use a flying car. Perhaps sometime in the distant future. As I commercial pilot, I can certainly say that flying an airplane takes a lot of skill, training and cost.
Yes, I think there are 3 issues here as you have well noted.
That is 1st issue is that will a sortof Flying Car exist that will be demonstrated.
Yes, this will. But will be a demo only.
2nd is, will the general public be able to buy it at affordable prices. NO. Answer is no for at least 100 years more I am sure. Because as you noted, when the Auto pilot on a flying car stops working then you need to be able to fly it which requires skills of a trained pilot.
Well we could actually have them really soon if our Government spent less of our Money on making Weapons to Kill people and spent some of that on making Innovative new things such as Flying Cars which require massive Government spending to happen since the challenge is not just the flying car but more so the flying regime which would allow easy flying of such cars without people needing to get a fly license.
The first thing here is that flying cars have existed in the past and a new one has recently been launched http://www.aeromobil.com/. That said you do need a pilots licence to fly.
There will never be any possibility of being allowed to fly on a driving licence.
But this new Flying Car, is flown totally on Auto Pilot mode and flown to its destination with GPS controls. So no flying license is needed based on that fact. Well that it is what the manufacturer of this plane is at least saying, which makes sense. So all you have to do is to punch in the destination, and it will Auto Take off, Auto fly and Auto land at that destination.
To reiterate the pilot is there for when all the lovely automated systems go wrong and they do from time to time, the pilot is trained and able to:
1. Fly the aircraft
2. Navigate to the destination
3. Talk to radar control.
4. Talk to the destination airfield
5. Fly the hold
7. Deal with emergencies
and much more besides
Yes, you make a valid point that the Killer problem of the Computer based so called Flying Car is that on occasion that the Computer cannot Auto Fly the craft, then you have a whole bunch of dead people, unless the driver is licensed to fly. And that will happen inevitably, that is the Computer flying such craft will fail in one way or another, as you can see from number of times that your Computer crashes per Week or your Mobile phone crashes per day,
I dont see how it can happen, in any serous way, given the problem of Air collision. Unless somehow we come up with an Automated system that self avoids planes crashing into one another, which is not realsitcaly possible since we still have Big Jets crashing into one another all the time.
But if this becomes really available, put me down as a buyer :)
Yes, that is the part that worries me too, or makes me think this will never happen in any serious ways. That is a few of these flying, yes Ok. But Millions of these flying, no based on the Air collision problem, specially with a Big passenger carrying Jet liner.
